Watch for running, what is the best/most affordable choice?

I'm looking to purchase my first wearable tech item and am torn between all the choices! I'm becoming an avid runner and walker and enjoy the oocasional workout at the gym. What is the best item(s) for me to consider, Apple Watch, Garmen, FitBit?
